The Theme for October 1: Sensual!

OK, last month's theme of "Photographing the Photographer" was easy.  Maybe this month's theme will be hard.  "Sensual!"  How will you illustrate that theme?  Will you be funny?  Will you be modest?  Will you be R-rated or even X-rated?  City Daily Photo does not employ any censors, though maybe your blog host does.  We look forward to seeing the results of your artistic eye and your creativity.

11 Years of Photoblogging Sydney for Jim

On September 20, 2006, Jim showed his first photographs of Sydney, Australia, on his new photoblog.  Since then, Jim has been one of City Daily Photo's most consistent bloggers.  Sydney - City and Suburbs has shared its beautiful city with other CDP bloggers concentrating on Sydney, but Jim and his blog have outlasted most.

Well done, Jim.  We look forward to many more years.

A Tenth Birthday for "Out and About in New York City"

On September 13, 2007, Daryl began a photo blog to show everyone what she saw as she went about her daily life in New York City.  Subways and taxis.  Flowers.  Dogs.  Cops.  Workers.  Water towers and skyscrapers.  In two weeks Out and About in New York City begins its second decade.  Daryl writes in a free form poetic style and she favors vertical layouts for most of her photos. Good work, Daryl.

Ten Years for Christchurch Daily Photo on September 6

On September 8, 2007, a web designer in Christchurch, New Zealand, was motivated to start her own daily photo blog to record things she loved about her city.  That was an important decision by Michelle Sullivan in unexpected ways.  In 2010 and then again in 2011 Christchurch was hit by severe earthquakes that devastated the city.  Michelle's previous images preserve a key record of many structures that were lost.

Michelle tries to post one or more photos every day, but, like most of us, sometimes life intervenes and keeps her away.  Still, she has been a regular contributor within the CDP community, and her blog now serves an even more critical purpose for her city.

Photographing the Photographer . . . CDP's September Monthly Theme

This gentleman had a monstrous lens mounted on his camera.  The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary has many native birds.  On a typical day, one encounters quite a few serious birders and quite a few serious photographers.  He had a particular bird in mind and was waiting patiently for it to appear again.  I am less committed to bird photos, so I sneaked a shot of him and moved on.

"Photographing the Photographer."

We probably all do it.  Which one will you show on September 1?

Let's Celebrate a New Guy!

Twice a month the City Daily Photo portal's home page has recognized a longtime blogger, often ten year anniversaries or the like.  Today, let's do something different.  Let's celebrate a "new guy."  William Kendall!  from Ottawa Daily Photo.

Sometime in 2007 or so, we began seeing regular appreciative comments on our posts from William.  He was always positive about our work (though we have learned since that William has a salty side not seen in his CDP comments).  After watching our posts for months, on September 13, 2013, Ottawa Daily Photo announced its birth with a loud trumpet flourish.  William was one of us.

William still visits our posts faithfully.  He encourages us with his comments, but now he also shows us the beauty of Canada's capital city and its institutions and cityscape.  Nice to have you, William.

Do you like Memes? How about Monday Mural!

Many City Daily Photo bloggers like to participate in memes other than our own monthly theme day. Some are sponsored by CDP members, others are sponsored by non-CDP members.  A good meme is Monday Mural, sponsored by CDP member Carolyn, the blogger behind Oakland Daily Photo.  Like murals?  Go visit her blog on a Monday or link your own mural photo.

Actually, it will probably be first on Facebook, or Twitter, or maybe you'll hear about it from the nice old guy next door. Whatever the case, if you have news to share, how about sharing it with us, so we can share it with everyone and actually make these pages useful?
