The January 1 Theme is, as Always, "Photograph of the Year"

If it was too easy, can an image still qualify as your "Photograph of the Year"? Does effort factor in? What if it was not taken in the city where your City Daily Photo blog is located?

On vacation in East Africa in August, my safari vehicle came upon a couple of lions lying around not far from the road. We stopped and watched for a while. Soon a male stood up, yawned and then struck a perfect pose in silhouette, which he held for ten or twenty seconds. Hard to miss. Click.
For CDP purposes I will find one taken in my city, but to illustrate the point, here he is.

On January 1, welcome the new year with your best or favorite photograph from 2017.

Ten Years from a Dutch Island

Ten years ago Marlon Paul Bruin began a blog -- Texel Pics -- to show photographs from his Dutch home city.  Texel is a municipality and an island in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It is the largest and most populated of the Frisian Islands in the Wadden Sea.  Since he began, Bruin has spread his work across other platforms like Twitter and Facebook.  Most often, a post shows a calm image of the beach, with few words.  Beautiful and serene.

The Theme for December 1 is "Gift"

Last Christmas, Granddaughter Willa was wearing one Christmas gift, a sweater brought back from a trip to Norway, and holding a second gift, a Teddy bear.  What is the best gift?  Grandchildren, of course.

Let's see your interpretation of "gift" on December 1.

A Big Apple Meet-Up

Last week, two longtime City Daily Photo bloggers met in New York City and spent several days wandering the city, taking photographs and enjoying a reunion.  Bob Crowe (right), a lawyer who posts on St. Louis Daily Photo, and Olivier Perrin (left), who posts on Evry Daily Photo, had met three times before in Paris and Evry, a suburb.  When Olivier let Bob know that he was planning a trip to the USA, Bob rearranged his schedule so the two could visit together.

Some of the highlights of their reunion trip were Queens, where Bob grew up, Roosevelt Island, the High Line and the World Trade Center's September 11 Museum.  This photo shows the two in The Oculus, the newly opened transportation hub at the World Trade Center.

Meeting up with other CDP bloggers?  Leave a comment here and we will make arrangements to get some information and a photo for future posts on the CDP portal.

Ten Years for Port Elizabeth Daily Photo. . . November 9, 2007

Next week it will be ten years since Port Elizabeth Daily Photo was begun to highlight the South African city of Port Elizabeth on Nelson Mandela Bay.  Two other photobloggers began the website but ran out of steam after 500 posts.  So, in stepped "Firefly" (Jonker Fourie), a local man who had another blog and a passion for the city.  In addition to his work in the travel industry, his hobby of geocaching and another photography blog, Firefly has posted (almost) daily since 2008.  It is an interesting blog from a fascinating part of the world.  Take a look.

Let's See You Rock'n'Roll on November 1

So, the October theme of "Sensual" posed its challenges, didn't it?  On November let's turn up the volume with "Rock'n'Roll."

Those who look at my own blog -- Naples and Hartford in Season -- recognize that (a) when I am in Connecticut I often visit the gorgeous nearby gardens in Elizabeth Park, and (b) on Wednesday evenings in the summer I often photograph the dancers at one of Elizabeth Park's free concerts near the rose garden.  Here is one happy couple rocking up a storm.  How will you portray "Rock'n'Roll" on November 1?

Later this month Michel Benoit celebrates the conclusion of his first decade of consistent daily blogging at Avignon.  Michael does a splendid job of honoring his beautiful and historic home city on the Rhone River through a mix of his own photographs, historic photographs and a variety of Avignon-related memorabilia.

Since I was fortunate to be in Michael's lovely city just two weeks ago, I will honor his blog by posting my own Avignon photograph, too.

Actually, it will probably be first on Facebook, or Twitter, or maybe you'll hear about it from the nice old guy next door. Whatever the case, if you have news to share, how about sharing it with us, so we can share it with everyone and actually make these pages useful?
